Discussion:
GA Natural Gas Rates for October

If you have an annual contract for natural gas and you don't check the
rates when you're eligible to switch, you could get locked into a bad
deal. Marketers quote only the gas rates, but your bill includes
customer service fees and other charges that add up. Be sure to
compare "Apples-to-Apples" rates, which include everything except
taxes.

FYI, here are the "Apples-to-Apples" rates offered by Georgia
marketers for annual contracts signed this month (as published by the
PSC):

1) Coweta-Fayette EMC (877-RINGEMC): $1.22/therm
2) GasKey (877-GAS-1KEY): $1.36/therm
3) Georgia Natural Gas (877-850-6200): $1.29/therm
4) Infinite Energy (877-342-5434): $1.38/therm
5) Scana Energy (877-GO-SCANA): $1.35/therm
6) Shell Energy (877-67-SHELL): $1.31/therm
7) Southern Company Gas (866-SOCO-GAS): $1.33/therm
8) Vectren Source (866-200-5693): $1.30/therm
9) Walton EMC (866-WEMCGAS): $1.26/therm

[See http://www.psc.state.ga.us/gas/marketerpricing/2004/Oct04/oct04gmpl.htm
for more info.)

To choose a new marketer, call them at the number above and sign up
for a one-year fixed rate. They will order Atlanta Gas Light and your
current marketer to transfer your account, and they will process the
switch the same month if you call by the 19th.

When I try to figure out what gas company rates have to do with race, I'm
really mystified. And, as usual, you know more about my motivations than I
do.

I like being reminded about choices in life that can save money. I like
it even more when the govn't provides practical rundowns instead of
hearing the latest "greatest deal" by some marketer to sucker punch a
person. Money isn't automatically the best deal. But, it's a good
place to start. Thanks. You gotta nice link. ;-)

Thanks, NightCrawler. I've found the Georgia PSC to be very
customer-centric. There's only so much they can do by law in a
deregulated marketplace, but they seem to do all they can to look out
for residential customers. You won't find this kind of info so easily
in other deregulated states, like Maryland or New York (though Texas
is pretty good). I try to post the info in as simple a way as
possible, instead of just posting the link, because no one really
wants to think too hard about natural gas.

Why dont you take your natural gas discussion off this thread. We all

Why does your coop listed in blackenergy.com charge 20% more than everyone
else. Seems like someone is trying to rip off poor uneducated people, those
who can least afford it. No intelligent black person would ever fall for

Thanks for your message, Roland. Our co-op is supplied by Infinite
Energy, one of the original marketers certified to sell natural gas in
Georgia, whose rates are comparable to those offered by other
marketers. Members of our co-op have rates no higher than Infinite's
residential customers. blackEnergy offers additional benefits in the
form of nonprofit contributions and rate discounts based on our
volume. Our members are intelligent enough to require information
about supported nonprofits, as well as a comparison of rates. That's
why we are happy to publish this rate comparison each month.
