This month's energy tip: Take advantage of the season by locking in a
low fixed rate before natural gas rates head even higher.

Natural gas marketers quote only the gas rates, but your bill includes
customer service fees and other charges that add up. Be sure to compare
rates on an "Apples-to-Apples" basis, which includes everything on your
bill except taxes. Here are the "Apples-to-Apples" per-therm rates
offered by Georgia marketers this month:

1) blackEnergy ( www.blackenergy.com ): $1.42 Variable or $1.73 Fixed
2) Commerce Energy (877-226-5389): $1.39 Variable or $1.54 Fixed
3) Coweta-Fayette EMC (877-RING-EMC): $1.36 Variable or $1.64 Fixed
4) GasKey (877-GAS-1KEY): $1.35 Variable or $1.57 Fixed
5) Gas South (866-762-6427): $1.46 Variable or $1.70 Fixed
6) Georgia Natural Gas (877-850-6200): $1.50 Variable or $1.70 Fixed
7) Infinite Energy (877-DIAL-IEI): $1.47 Variable or $1.73 Fixed
8) Scana Energy (877-GO-SCANA): $1.50 Variable or $1.57 Fixed
9) Shell Energy (877-67-SHELL): $1.65 Variable or $1.83 Fixed
10) Vectren Source (866-200-5693): $1.46 Variable or $1.68 Fixed
11) Walton EMC (866-WEMC-GAS): $1.36 Variable or $1.65 Fixed

Contact your chosen marketer to sign up for a monthly variable rate or
one-year fixed rate. They'll order Atlanta Gas Light to transfer your
account, and you'll be switched to your new marketer on the 1st of next
month if you call by the 19th.

Wow ! A year ago a therm was about 89 cents. These people(?) in
the oil and gas business are really doing it to us. I suppose that
Katrina wil become the patron Saint(ess) of the Oil Industry.

Last year, in late August, I was notified that my per therm (fixed
rate) cost would go from 89 cents to $1.17.

According to this chart, ---

http://www.wtrg.com/daily/gasprice.html

--- it would appear that they were paying about $9.00 to $9.50 for a
contract at that time. They are now paying $6.95 per contract and
want to charge us $1.57 to $1.83 a therm.

I've never seen a better argument for the re-regulation of the natural
gas heating industry.
